Event Description:

In races for three, term-limited Houston City Council seats, no candidate got a majority of the votes in the general elections that concluded November 6. Since we do not use Instant Runoff Voting, this means that a bunch of extra money must be spent on a special runoff election. Early voting runs from Nov 28 through Dec 4. The main date to know is Saturday, DECEMBER 8, when most people will vote. NOW is the time (if you haven't already) to contact your favorite candidate who's in the runoff and volunteer to help that person. Your efforts can really make a difference in an election where the voter turnout is likely to be extremely low!

We are pleased to present "The Secret -- to Creating Peace", featuring Shirley Wilkes-Johnson on Saturday, December 8th.

Join us for an evening of Vegan Indian cuisine, cultural music and dance performances and an important lecture by our featured speaker. Shirley has been a vegan activist & chef since 1984 and a vegetarian since 1961. She co-founded the Lone Star Vegetarian Network and co-founded with Janice Blue the Go Vegan Texas radio program on KPFT Pacifica Radio in Houston. Her presentation can be described as inspirational and transformation -- something all social justice activists should hear. Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world". So, how can we BE peace? Attend this enlightening presentation and learn ways we can all BE peace and compassion, thereby affecting great change in the world around us.
